About Us

Hama Advisory was founded to bridge the gap between academic research and organizational execution. We believe decisions about people should be as evidence-based as decisions about finance—grounded in data, defensible under scrutiny, and designed to produce results.

David Youssefnia, Ph.D.

Founder & Principal

David is an organizational psychologist with over 15 years of experience advising organizations on talent strategy, leadership effectiveness, and workforce analytics.

His work spans government agencies, Fortune 500 companies, and high-growth startups.  David serves as the bridge between I-O science and executive strategy—translating rigorous research into practical decisions. Prior to founding Hama Advisory, he was an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Madrona Venture Labs and co-founder of Uplevel. Earlier in his career, he led consulting engagements at Critical Metrics, partnering with clients including the Port of Seattle, United Nations, Salesforce, The New York Times, Kaiser Permanente, and Starbucks. 

David has taught courses in organizational behavior, leadership, and HR analytics at the University of Washington Foster School of Business and Baruch College, City University of New York. He holds a Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology.

Charles Scherbaum, Ph.D.

Chief Scientist

Charles is a professor of industrial-organizational psychology at Baruch College, City University of New York, and a nationally recognized expert in employee selection, job analysis, and assessment validation.

His research in psychometrics, bias-reduction, and selection science has received top awards in the field.  Charles has served as an expert witness and technical consultant in employment litigation for the U.S. Department of Justice, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and private sector clients. His work focuses on demonstrating the job-relatedness of selection procedures and ensuring compliance with federal guidelines. 

At Hama Advisory, Charles leads technical work on validation studies, adverse impact analysis, and selection system design.

Our Standards

Our work adheres to the standards set by SIOP (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures.
